“Bil Batori” of our childhood NUSRAT ARA BEGUM passes away

BIL BATORI – AINAK

Ainak Wala Jinn was the favorite serial of kids and adults back in the 90s. Families used to wait for the serial. The character of Bil Batori also had a great impact on us.

She was from Karachi but moved to Lahore to work in Pakistani Drama Industry three decades ago. Her role of Bil Batori was a negative one but something which is part of every Pakistani’s childhood. She also worked in a number of stage plays and TV dramas after Ainak Wala Jinn but failed to get the success that she gained from Ainak Wala Jinn and as Bil Batori

For the last 10 years she faced extreme poverty and was even forced into beggary at the shrine of Data Ganj Baksh. She had been begging there for last 3 years make ends meet.

“For the last three years, I have been completely dependent upon the shrine for food. I have done my best to fight against fate and am proud to say that I have never sought help from anyone but myself. But now, I have grown old and tired,” shared Nusrat in January of this year.

She had added, “Right now, I am not even in a position to move my body, let alone pay the Rs10,000 rent due at the end of the month. I want to die in peace and request the prime minister to appreciate my efforts and provide me with medical help at least.”

The government ignored her struggle and she was struggilng to keep a roof over her head for the better part of her life. Pakistan Baitul Maal (PMB) gave her 1 million Rupee for her treatment and Barrister Abid Waheed Sheikh (the MD of PMB) also gave her 50k separately for her expenses.
