THE LEGENDARY GAMES OF OLD TIMES
When I was growing up Play Stations and Xbox were not introduced. When they were introduced I was really poor and couldn’t afford a console so had to work with Atari and Sega Mega Drive as they were a bit cheap to buy. Still a cassette of Sega used to cost Rs. 200 in the mid 90s which was a valuable amount back in those days. Anyway here we are gonna see a number of games we played in the era of Sega and Atari
1 – SUPER MARIO
I don’t know a single guy who haven’t played super mario. The adventures of Mario and Luigi to save the princess completes our childhood.
2 – DUCK HUNT
Duck Hunt was another amazing game where a gun was attached to console and you have to target the flying ducks. The way dog laughed when you missed a shot is still funny.
3 – SNOW BROS
The adventures of Nick and Tom trying to defuse their enemies using snowballs were another amazing part of our childhood.
4 – CONTRA
A commando is dropped in a jungle with mission to cross the enemy’s initial line of defense and destrroy the large sensor at the first base. This was just the first level. Sounds exciting right? A total number of 7 levels were in the game and each harder than the previous one. Best thing was that two characters were available Lance and Bill so I didn’t have to wait for my turn and me and my brother played it together.
5 – ALADDIN
I don’t remember playing Aladdin on sega console as I played it on a cousin’s computer. I never really liked that cousin of mine but I had to be nice to him so he would let me play on his computer. Based on the same Aladdin storyline the game was a loved by Disney fans.
6 – VIRTUA COP
Virtua cop was the first of its type. Played by millions all over the world.
7 – SONIC
A hedgehog jumping and running with super speed collecting gold coins. Sounds pretty stupid right? But it wasn’t when we played it like crazy whole day long.
8 – TANK
This was really basic game still addictive. I used to play this with my bro and chacha people and was beaten whenever I accidentally shot the eagle we were supposed to defend.
9 – STREET FIGHTER
Street fighter was one of the most influential games ever made. Ryo’s “ABU KICK” was used by every kid in a class room fight. The combat game introduced us to the art of fighting and fat kids were called E-honda.
10 – ROAD RASH
For Bike lovers “Road Rash” was like a blessing.
11 – MORTAL COMBAT
A bit like street fighter but due to versatility of characters and better graphics Mortal Kombat got instant fame. The movie inspired by this game was also a huge success
12 – CADILLACS AND DINOSAURS
This game was played in every game shop and home. People were crazy for dinosaurs those days after the success of Jurassic Park movies and this game provided with all the adventures. Some people used to call it “Mustapha” game as a character was named Mustapha.
Three players can play this game at once guiding their character through eight stages, fighting various enemies and bosses. Dinosaurs were kinda neutral and sometimes also attacked the enemies.
13 – Metal Slug
Metal Slug was introduced later in that era. Normally in a game when you come in contact with an enemy you die or you lose a life but in this series you were given options to attempt a melee attack in case of physical contact.
I may be missing a few amazing games as this piece is written based just on memory. Kindly inbox or comment if something is missing and I will add it in episode 2 of this piece. Thanks and apologies if I missed any of your favorite game.
