KARACHI EAT FESTIVAL 2018
Today I went to the Karachi Eat Festival 2018 and had to wait for like an hour at the gate just to enter the “Benazir Shaheed Park”. But once I was inside it was like a food heaven. From “Kaybees” to “Sufi Banaspati”, fr and from “Rochesters” to “Fry Guys” there is nothing you can’t find.
Obviously you can’t eat each and everything in just day. Thank God the festival is for 3 days but still 3 days are not enough to try each and everything. I will be there all the three days I belong to the foodie sect and each day I am gonna advice what you must try.
A FEW THINGS YOU MUST TRY AT #KhiEat2018
1 – FRY GUYS
Was passing near the Fry Guys stall and watched them preparing. I stayed there for a couple of mins talking to my friends and witnessed around 20 people coming and asking when they are gonna open.
This increased my curiosity as what are they gonna serve. Came back an hour later and the order queue had around 30 people.
Have a look at their menu.
When my turn came even the Grilled Australian Long Fed Pastrami and Cheese Sandwich was sold out so we bought only a Deep Fried Chicken in a Waffle Cone and a Deep Fried Philly Cheese Steak Roll. Due to the long queue we were served after 20 minutes but I can say it was worth it. It will be safe to say that I never had something like that before. Each and everything was being made right in front of you to assure you of its freshness. The taste was amazing of both the items but the serving size was small. Due to which we needed more but couldn’t stand in the same long queue again. We will rate their items 8.5 and only deducting the 1.5 because of its serving size.
2 – THE MENU OF SHAN FOODS
The general perception is that “Who’s gonna eat things offered by home masala company” but I was surprised to see the crowd at the stall of Shan foods.
I mentioned in a previous piece of mine about the menu of Shan food
A few Chinese Brand Ambassadors were there to greet you and to present the concept of Khana with Parosi. Their presence will also remind you of the Biryani TVC.
Paya is really something tough to cook and perfection is needed in that case but here I saw people loving the Paya and coming back again and again to order it for their fellas.
Who can ignore keema in this chilly weather? Keema when served with a paratha is undefeated and nobody can match the awesomeness. That’s what Shan did here. They offered the thing that is like a trigger point for our hunger.
Fish is mandatory item in winters and when it is fried using the finest quality spices of Shan, I can’t define the taste that was offered.
Nihari is the favorite dish of Karachiites and the area on backside of Shan’s stall was full of people sitting in grass eating the Nihari. You can try it just once to believe in it.
3 – CHIMNEY ICE CREAM AT “PRAHA”
A friend of mine recommended me to try “Praha” on our way back to exit. Friend casually told me that the owner of Praha claims that his recipe is 300 years old so we planned to give it a shot and we saw pure gold at the stall.
We can easily see cake being baked in a grill. The cakes were later taken out and left to cool down a bit. In the meanwhile topping of nuts and oreo is done on them
The end product was like eating a romantic song of Ed Sheeran. Would surely recommend you to try it.
4 – ROOH AFZA
What comes to your mind when someone says “Rooh Afza”? Laal Sharbat right? The one you drink in Ramadan? This time the game is changed. It seems like Rooh Afza is changing the norms now and they introduced some amazing new flavors which are definitely a treat to your tastebuds
The taste of every drink was as amazing as their innovative names. Rooh Afza tried to join East and West with their careful research and it is safe to claim that they succeeded in it.
If you really wanna avoid fizzy carbonated drinks then you should definitely try the healthy ones offered at the stall of Rooh Afza.
